2014 Chevrolet Camaro
For 2014, Chevrolet's beloved retro muscle car receives an update that gets the nod from the auto press as well as car buyers. Also noteworthy is the return of the track ready Camaro Z/28, which is available at Chevrolet of Milford. Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com had this to say: "Whether you're a 20-something performance enthusiast seeking a car that boasts loads of power and aggressive looks, or a mid-lifer ready to get your crisis on/relive your youth, the 2014 Camaro offers serious thrills for the money." See here for details.
The 2014 Chevy Camaro is available as a four-seat coupe or a convertible. There are a total of eight trim levels: 1LS, 2LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, ZL1 and Z/28. The Camaro LS and LT trims are powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that develops 323 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic. Under the hood of the Camaro SS is a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that makes 426 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque when mated to the standard six-speed manual, and 400 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. when equipped with the six-speed automatic. Powering the ZL1 trim is a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine that's good for 580 horsepower and 556 lb.-ft. of torque. A six-speed manual is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional. The Z/28 gets a 7.0-liter V-8 that produces an astounding 500 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, teamed with a six-speed manual transmission.
The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro delivers commendable fuel economy, too, with EPA-estimated ratings of 17 mpg city/28 mpg highway/20 mpg combined for the 3.6-liter V-6 engine with manual transmission.* With the automatic, this V-6 gets 22 mpg combined on the 1LS, 1LT and 2LT models, and 21 mpg on the 2LS trim. The 6.2-liter V-8 gets 16/24/19 for the manual and 18 mpg combined for the automatic. The ZL1's 6.2-liter V-8 engine is rated at 16 mpg combined with the manual and 14 mpg with the automatic. Estimated fuel economy for the 7.0-liter V-8 has not yet been determined by the EPA.
The Z/28's reworked suspension is one of the first in a production car that features four-way adjustable shocks for tuning high and low-speed adjustments. The springs are 85 percent stiffer in the front and 65 percent stiffer in the rear. The Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve (DSSV) dampers are the same ones found in Formula One by Red Bull Racing. This is the first time DSSV dampers were used in a production model. A number of other suspension components have been stiffened, including the lower-arm front bushings, the lower trailing-link rear bushings and the rear upper control arm bushings. The latter was manufactured to be 400 percent stiffer, which allows the Z/28 to tackle the maximum lateral cornering forces of 1.08 Gs.
Manually-adjustable power-reclining front seats and cloth upholstery keep the driver and passengers riding in comfort. Options include heated front seats, six-way power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery and Recaro sport seats.
There's a host of standard safety features, including the OnStar system, which provides automatic crash notification, remote door unlocking, roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle assistance. OnStar also includes Turn-by-Turn Navigation, which allows drivers to call up saved directions by pushing a button.
